Plus, even if you are home, a porch pirate might just get to your package before you can. Law enforcement sources say that many package thieves will follow delivery trucks around in order to swipe up deliveries as soon as they’re dropped off.
If you know you’re going to struggle to be home to receive a delivery, why not use a friend’s, neighbor’s or work address instead?
Of course, you’ll first have to double check that the person you’re rerouting your package too will be home too – which might make things more tricky.
Security cameras and ring doorbells have become a popular choice for frustrated shoppers wanting to stop porch piracy, and they may act as a deterrent in some instances.
Unfortunately, some porch pirates won’t be phased by the presence of a camera. Whilst a security camera might arm you with some evidence, it’s still unlikely that you’ll get your package back.
Some companies (including Amazon) offer an option to ship packages in unmarked boxes to try to disguise what’s inside.
This might not be an option for every person you shop with, but if it’s available to you it could be worth trialling to see if it makes a difference.
